Tips for Parents & Helpful Resources

No parent or caregiver has all the answers—and that's okay. Raising children in today's world comes with unique challenges, from navigating social media and peer pressure to understanding vaping, alcohol, drugs, and rapidly changing trends. While it can sometimes feel overwhelming, one of the most powerful protective factors in a young person's life is a trusted adult who listens, communicates openly, and provides consistent support.

This section is designed to equip parents and caregivers with practical tools to help build strong relationships, start meaningful conversations, recognize when a child may need additional support, and access trusted local and national resources. You'll find conversation starters, communication tips, guidance for responding to difficult situations, and information about organizations that can provide education, prevention services, mental health support, and substance use resources.

Remember, prevention isn't about having one perfect conversation—it's about creating an environment where your child feels safe asking questions, sharing concerns, and knowing they can come to you without fear or judgment. By staying informed, setting clear expectations, and keeping the lines of communication open, you can help your child build the confidence and skills they need to make healthy, informed decisions throughout adolescence and beyond.

Whether you're looking for advice, educational materials, community resources, or simply reassurance that you're not alone, this section is here to support you every step of the way.

Parenting in today's digital world isn't about knowing every new slang term, app, or trend—it's about building a relationship where your child feels safe coming to you with questions, concerns, and mistakes. Staying informed, listening without judgment, setting clear expectations, and maintaining open communication are some of the most powerful ways to help protect young people from the risks of substance use.

No parent has all the answers, and no child is perfect. What matters most is showing up consistently, staying engaged, and reminding your child that your love and support are always stronger than any challenge they may face.
