Recognizing the Warning Signs
Every child experience changes as they grow, especially during adolescence. Mood swings, changing interests, and spending more time with friends are often a normal part of development. However, when multiple changes occur at the same time, are sudden, or become persistent, they may signal that a young person is struggling with substance use, mental health concerns, bullying, or another issue that deserves attention.
The signs below should not be viewed as proof that a child is using alcohol or drugs. Instead, they can serve as conversation starters and may indicate that additional support or guidance is needed.
